BALLOONS Storytimes and Drop-In Crafts at the Library

Hello, Friends!

Recently, we read several "uplifting" tales about big, bright, beautiful balloons!  We created these hot air balloons at storytime one morning....

Check out the hot air balloons we made during Drop-in Craft a few days earlier...

Finally, we inflated balloons and used them to paint with!  Can you imagine how much fun we had with this painting technique...

Thanks to all of my friends for "popping" in to complete such cool crafts with me!

xoxo,
Miss Katie

S'More Fun at Storytime Today at 11:30am

Hello Friends!     Happy National S'mores Day!

Today at storytime, we'll read books about camping out and roasting marshmallows under the stars,
and we'll paint starry night pictures using - you guessed it - MARSHMALLOWS!  (I forgot my paintbrushes at home - oops!)
We might even have a few leftover marshmallows to "roast" at the library, so stop in for Storytime and a craft this morning at 11:30am.  All ages welcome and no registration is required.  See you soon!

xoxo, Miss Katie

It's Time for Junior Battle of the Books!

It's finally here!  The 2012 Junior Battle of the Books is being held today at 5:30pm at The Mall at Steamtown, and we're so excited!

Once a week for the past 10 weeks, I've spent my favorite hour with eight of the smartest, sweetest and funniest kids in NEPA.  They read the five assigned books, and this afternoon, we'll face knowledgeable kids representing other libraries as we compete in the trivia challenge.  We're ready!  And, win or lose, we had so much fun together this summer.  I couldn't be prouder of our teams from Nancy Kay Holmes!

We played "Inventor" like Sneeze in our first book, 101 Ways to Bug Your Parents...

We earned "chicken pox" for each trivia question answered correctly...

We made origami stars for the Fourth of July as we quizzed each other about The Strange Case of Origami Yoda...

We played "Meteorologist Charades" as we discussed Storm Runners...

We earned water balloons for correct answers to trivia questions about all five books...

And we decorated T-shirts for today's competition.  (We sprayed diluted bleach around the outline of out team mascot: a shark!)

Best of Luck to ET, AJ, AB, GL, KG, EG, KZ, and MK, and to EVERYONE competing from other libraries in today's Jr. Battle of the Books!

xoxo,
Miss Katie
