Congratulations, Junior Battle of the Books Winners!

Greetings from the library!

Do you believe in miracles? I surely do.

I tried for months to get a team together for the Junior Battle of the Books. I made fun posters. Promised snacks at book discussion meetings. Nothing.

Then, two weeks before the competition, three young library friends came to me with interest. I told them what they would have to do--read five books and thoroughly learn the characters and plot lines all in a short span of time--and they took on the challenge. We got together to make really awesome Team Scranton dimensional paint t-shirts. Had a few question and answer sessions about the books. We were all set.

Then, on the day of the competition, I was told that one of the team members wasn't going to be able to make it to the Battle. One girl on the Greenridge team wasn't very keen on splitting up on different teams so I went with that. Dalton Library had a team of three girls so my two girls joined forces with them.

The Dalton/Greenridge team won the first round against the Children's Library boys team. They went on to the second round against Abington 2 and won that one too! Then there was a third round against Children's Library girls team to see who went on to the final round. Dalton/Greenridge won again, advancing to the finals!

The final round was against the North Pocono Majeebies. It was a very intense round with some tough questions. Time seemed to move very slow.

And then, it was over.

Dalton/Greenridge won the competition! What an amazing night!

Congratulations Dalton/Greenridge Junior Battle of the Books winners! We look forward to having the Junior Battle of the Books trophy at the library in the next couple months.

A huge thank you to the dedicated librarians who put so much time and effort into making the Junior Battle of the Books and Battle of the Books possible!

See you at the library,

July Storytimes

Greetings from the library!

Where has the time gone? August is almost over but I did not forget about all the fun we had at the July storytimes! So much celebration in July! National Hot Dog Month, National Ice Cream Month, National Picnic Month, Cow Appreciation Day. We pretty much covered it all at storytime! Check out our creations!

National Hot Dog Month

What are the chances? My friend CJ showed up for Hot Dog Storytime with a hot dog t-shirt!

The PA Honey Queen came for a visit!

National Picnic Month

July 8, 2011 marked the last flight of the shuttle program and July 20th was the anniversary of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. I grew up driving to Florida at least once a year for the shuttle launches so I thought we could make some rockets!

See you at the library,
