Upcoming Event: Library Election Celebration

November 5^th may be the official Election Day, but at the Nancy Kay Holmes Library, we are holding our very own Election Day on Wednesday, November 6^th.

 

Our Children’s Room is in need of a president, so stop by to cast your vote!

 

The following characters are running for president: Arthur, Clifford, Dora and Curious George.

 

Voting will take place now through November 6^th.

 

We will count the votes and announce our winner at our election celebration.

LEGO Club @ your Library!

 

Join us for LEGO Club at Nancy Kay Holmes Library! On Wednesday, October 2nd at 5:30PM we will host our first ever LEGO Club!

 

Guess how many LEGOs are in the jar,  pin the head on the minifigure and enjoy a time of free building. We have plenty of Legos here, so just stop by and have fun.

Meet Miss Amber Story Hour

My name is Miss Amber and I am the new Children's Program Coordinator at the Nancy Kay Holmes Library. Last week was my first week at the library and I am very excited to meet all of you!

Hello Friends,

My name is Miss Amber and I am the new Children’s Programming Coordinator for the Nancy K. Holmes Branch Library! I am VERY excited to meet you all. Some of you may know me from Library Express or the Children’s Library, but I am now calling Nancy K. Holmes my new home. Please stop by to meet me sometime soon. I will be hosting story hour every Monday and Friday at 11:30 as well as CRAFTernoon on Fridays from 3:00-4:30. This week we will make Angry Birds (yes those Angry Birds from the game)! Be on the lookout for our schedule for October because I am planning some special events for all of you.

"Favorite Family Photos" Show & Tell (and Farewell) Storytime, Today at 5:30pm!

This evening's Show & Tell Storytime promises to be special as our friends are encouraged to bring their favorite family photos to share.  Large or small, black-and-white or color photos, portraits or action shots - are all welcome!  Show & Tell Storytime begins at 5:30 pm, all ages are invited, and pre-registration is required, so call the library at 207-0764 to say you'll be here.

A sneak peek at my Show & Tell "Favorite Family Photo" is above.  (That's my daughter, Meghan, as "Cookie Mouse"!)  I cherish this photo because it will always remind me of the memorable experiences I've had with my kids while getting to know the many wonderful families of Nancy Kay Holmes Branch Library.  And, as I prepare for my final storytimes today and tomorrow, I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone, not only for taking part in the hundreds of stories and crafts, parties and events, clubs and games here at the library, but for sharing your children, your lives and your stories with me!  Best wishes, many thanks, and much love!

Cookie Mouse Visits Nancy Kay Holmes Branch Library Today at 5:30pm

Bring your camera and your appetite as costumed character Cookie Mouse joins us today for a special reading of his favorite story, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.  I'm hearing he just might bring his favorite chocolate chip cookies to share with you after storytime, so don't miss it!

Doritos and Smurfs at the Library?!?

Dear Friends,

If ever you've wondered: "What do Doritos and Smurfs have in common?", I'm excited to explain they're the names of the two teams representing the Nancy Kay Holmes Branch Library in this year's Junior Battle of the Books Competition! 

This summer, an amazing group of devoted preteens read five books and gathered weekly to discuss the stories.  Last Thursday, both teams competed against terrific teams from other Lackawanna County libraries in the annual Junior Battle of the Books, and I'm so proud of the efforts of both teams!  Team Doritos walked away with the honors as this year's Winners (see photo above).  Congratulations to the "Doritos": Billy P., Maggie C., Riley M., and Alex M., and to the "Smurfs": Riley M., Sarah W., Abby B., and Sarah S. (not pictured), and to all worthy opponents on other Junior Battle teams throughout Lackawanna County!

Thanks for a great summer, Doritos and Smurfs!  I miss you already, and I can't wait for next summer!

Join Ms. Stefanie from the Everhart Museum for a reading of "Nobody's Diggier Than a Dog" by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, followed by a workshop on book illustrations!

Illustrations may be entered into the Distinguished Authors Award Presentation and exhibit honoring Susan Campbell Bartoletti.
